The average turnout was 73.75 percent. So re-polling was held in five places yesterday. Elections in 15 constituencies were canceled due to death of candidates. According to the zones, the highest turnout was 62 per cent in North Gujarat, 60 per cent in Saurashtra-Kutch, 58 per cent in Central Gujarat and 57 per cent in South Gujarat. Now the counting of votes has been conducted today and the result will be declared after the counting of votes. The results may be a bit late since the ballot paper was voted on.
As many as 1,165 village panchayats and 9,613 wards were declared as “totally uncontested”, where representatives were elected unopposed, as per the Gujarat State Election Commission. Such panchayats are called ‘samras’ in Gujarat. Besides, 473 sarpanches have been elected in a “partially uncontested” process (where only one candidate for the post of sarpanch was left after the withdrawal of nominations while polls for other seats were being held), it said.
